To My Long
Lost Love
We build our lives so carefully,
adding treasured moments day by day,
Traveling through crushes and heartaches
searching for a once in a lifetime,
ever after love along the way.
Years pass and we settle into our lives
Thinking briefly now and then of the past.
Happy in our little worlds, yet wondering
Where might he or she be by now, sending
Prayers for happiness for each at long last.
A chance meeting and emotions resurface
as our long lost love is discovered anew.
The lost moments clutch at our hearts,
for a moment we are those starry eyed
young people as we the memories review.
Our Song, played slow and sweet,
We dance trembling with the newness,
From the tender, first kiss we shared
To guitar serenades and quiet walks,
A gentle touch, and a soft caress.
The misunderstood words, well-meaning friends,
and goodbye forever we parted in haste.
Unknowing, yet caring, traveling our paths
Toward the uncertain future with hope
And whispered prayers that it was not a waste.
Miles and rivers we have crossed
as we built our lives apart, sharing dreams
with our new loves, building our new hopes.
Yet in the recesses of our hearts we hear
Echoes of "what if" all were not as it seems.
We pick our way through a time of joy and pain
as we try to discover the why and the how
of the treacherous twists and turns of fate
that brought us down these separate roads
and the lives that made us who we are now.
Never truly lovers, but forever friends
we share thoughts of what might have been
wondering what if, if only, but never will be,
and we are exactly where we are meant to be
Once friends, and now to be friends again.
Welcome back, old wounds are shared and healed.
Through the laughter and the anxious tears,
We find at last that young love is never truly lost,
merely out of reach for a space in time,
And in each heart lay a golden thread across years.
Welcome my long lost love, I thought never more to see
or hear from you again in this earthly sea.
Welcome to you and your hearts true love,
A wealth of love and years of wisdom...
Come share life stories with my true love and me.
