The
Doll Buggy Parade
The Ladies Aid Society of our church,
For an afternoon outing one hot Sunday,
Planned a parade for the girls to play.
A parade with our baby buggies
Where each could proudly display
Our baby doll dressed for the day.
An event for the six to twelve year olds
We proudly pushed them down
The two lane main street of the town.
With sweat running down our faces
We walked the six long blocks with smiles,
Proudly we might have walked for miles.
We had buggies of all shapes and sizes.
Both store bought and home made.
Of every possible design and shade.
Well worn ones and shiny new ones,
No one really cared who had which.
This was not about who was poor or rich.
At the end of the parade we took a vote,
On which was the nicest with bows and flowers.
Then we all were rewarded for the hot hours.
The winner took home a large blue bow.
We all had cake and homemade ice cream,
And happy memories of which to dream.
